L’EROICA” is [an Italian] period cyclotouristic rally held mainly on gravel roads, organized since 1997. It is a special “race” from every point of view. It proposes surroundings and scenes from the “heroic” times of cycling: dust or mud, no organized service, vintage refreshments, wonderful and demanding roads, great ability to adapt and to suffer.

We search for the authentic roots of the awesome popularity of that cycling world made by the giants of the roads, which created so much literary legends.

See a post about L’Eroica at EcoVelo, too.

This fellow evokes thoughts of cooler weather.

The last of the best images (of gents, anyway) from Sellwood’s gallery of vintage cycling posters.

This is such a great example of how to look good on a bike, I don’t even care that it’s blurry.

Another from bicyclesonly.

British textile company Dashing Tweeds has a mission to re-tweed the world:

Dashing Tweeds is Britain’s latest tweed textile company. Opening up a contemporary arena for a classic quality fabric, Dashing Tweeds has created a range of tweeds for the 21st century, designed by photographer Guy Hills and weaver Kirsty McDougall.

Among their line of tailored outfits is the Cycle Suit, pictured here, which contains reflective micro-fibers for added safety when riding at night. Methinks these are not for the faint of budget, but they sure look fine.

This image reminds me a little of the iconic Tiananmen Square image from the protests of 1989. The square stance, the comprehensive safety gear, and the almost-defiant “I will take the lane in front of this Toyota” attitude represents everything the Cycling Gentleman should be. Good work, Anonymous Sir!

Thanks Charlotte.

I like his relaxed attitude. His companion seems to be riding rather hard, however.

Another fine specimen from Sellwood Cycle Repair.
